Every venue wants to be talked about. The ones that get shared most tend to have something in common: a moment guests can’t resist photographing. More and more, that moment is made of plants.

The new first impression

Guests now decide where to eat, drink, stay and celebrate by scrolling, and a venue’s look is part of its pitch. A striking green wall or a lush entrance display can turn an ordinary visit into a post, a story or a tagged photo, and each one puts your venue in front of that guest’s followers. That is marketing you haven’t had to pay for, and it comes with the credibility of a friend’s recommendation.

Why plants photograph so well

Plants have a few advantages as a backdrop:

  • They add depth and texture. Layered foliage gives photos richness that flat walls and furniture can’t.
  • They bring colour and life. Greens, florals and seasonal accents stand out against most interiors and look good in natural or low light.
  • They feel authentic. Real planting gives a space character that guests want to be part of, which is what makes people want to share it.
  • They are never quite the same twice. Seasonal changes keep your venue fresh, giving regular guests a reason to post again.

Four ways to create a shareable moment

1 – The green wall feature

A living wall behind a bar, reception desk or banquette gives guests an instant photo backdrop. Position it where people naturally pause, with good lighting, and let it carry the atmosphere of the room. A green ceiling can do the same overhead, for a look guests rarely see elsewhere.

2 – The statement entrance

Your entrance is the first photo opportunity and the one that sets expectations. Large planters, a floral arch or a dramatic seasonal display tells guests they have arrived somewhere special, and gives them a reason to stop outside and take a picture.

3 – Moss with a message

Nordik Moss offers a maintenance-free way to add natural texture, and it can be shaped into logos, lettering and designs. A moss wall that carries your venue’s name or brand turns a feature into a branded backdrop, so every photo is also an advert.

4 – The seasonal moment

Hanging baskets, florals and festive installations give guests a reason to visit and share at particular times of year. A Christmas display, a spring floral wall or a summer terrace in full bloom can become a seasonal tradition that people look out for.

Design it to be shared

A photogenic feature rarely happens by accident. A few principles help:

  • Think about the camera. Make sure the feature has enough space in front of it for guests to stand, and lighting that flatters people and plants alike.
  • Choose the right spot. Place it where people already linger: by the entrance, the bar or the best table, not tucked into a corridor.
  • Make it part of the story. Planting that reflects your brand, whether bold and tropical, calm and natural or elegant and floral, looks more intentional and gets shared more.
  • Plan for scale. One large, confident feature usually beats lots of small ones.
  • Add a nudge. A subtle sign, hashtag or cocktail name can encourage guests to tag you, without feeling forced.

Keep it looking its best

A shareable feature only works if it looks healthy. Tired or patchy planting does the opposite, and photos of it can do more harm than good. Regular maintenance keeps your display looking as fresh as the day it was installed, so every guest gets the same picture-perfect moment.

The return on a living feature

A well-designed planting scheme isn’t just decoration. It creates atmosphere for guests, a talking point for staff and a steady flow of shared content for your venue. And unlike a one-off campaign, it works every day it’s on display.

At Benholm Group, we’ve spent over 30 years designing, installing and maintaining planting for hospitality venues, events and commercial spaces across the UK.
