In her office-based role as our Finance Administrator, you may not have met Suzanne, but she has played an integral role in our success since joining in 2013.
As she celebrates her milestone 10th anniversary at Benholm, we sat down with our unsung hero to delve into the experiences, challenges, and memorable moments that have defined her time here.
What initially attracted you to join our company, and how has your role evolved since then?
My first role within the company was on a part-time basis learning the Accounts system which led to a full-time position due to the growth and turnover of the company increasing steadily over the 10-year period of my employment.
What does your job entail?
I process all the administrative tasks for the operation of our Finance Department. This involves both the Sales and Purchase Ledger of the company along with the responsibility for the Credit Control.
Can you share a memorable experience that stands out to you over the past 10 years?
We have been part of a few memorable events that have been held in Scotland where we were involved with the planting.
The Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014 and also COP26 In November 2021 stand out for me.
Can you share a time when you had to overcome a significant challenge at work?
The main times when it has been challenging have been when we have expanded by purchasing other companies. This meant having to integrate this with our systems and procedures. With a positive approach and good organisation, we have managed to navigate any issues with a “can-do” attitude by staying focused and motivated to ensure a smooth transition.
What skills or qualities do you think are most important for success in your role?
Organisation, Communication, Customer Service, Negotiation, Attention to Detail.
In your experience, how has our company maintained strong relationships with clients over the years?
Through the very best Customer Service from every department. From our Marketing to our Sales Team and Maintenance Technicians, every member of staff has the company ethos to be creative and caring with a can-do approach. We will always go the extra mile to ensure customer satisfaction.
What do you enjoy most about your job and working for Benholm?
I enjoy the interaction with our customers and visitors. Finance is really at the centre of the business and has a role within all the departments within the organisation which makes each day different. I enjoy seeing our creations on-site when complete and seeing some fantastic innovative work.
If you could go back 10 years, what advice would you give to your younger self starting in this role?
I would realise that Finance and Credit Control is ever-changing, particularly for a company such as Benholm. Be flexible where needed but stick to core terms.
Can you share any fun facts about yourself that even your colleagues might not know?
What does your ideal holiday look like?
100% sunshine is a must! Relaxing with family and friends and exploring new places.
Do you have any pets? If so, tell us about them.
Twin Bengal Cross cats, Cleo and Luna. I think I might have more pictures of them on my phone than my children!
Describe your perfect day when you’re not at work…
A visit to the beach, with nice food and wine to relax.
Any goals or resolutions for the new year?
In terms of work, to continue to ensure that the company cashflow/budgeting and forecasting is steady and accurate to enable further growth.
