The Singleton of Glen Ord Distillery Crowned Visitor Attraction of the Year
Date Posted: December 22, 2023

The Glen Ord Distillery’s Singleton, situated in Muir of Ord, earned the title of Visitor Attraction of the Year at the annual Icons of Whisky Scotland and World Whiskies Awards 2024. Positioned along the renowned North Coast 500 route, this visitor destination boasts an immersive experience centred around its “epicurean spirit,” highlighted by a variety of food and whisky-tasting opportunities.

Easily reachable by train or bus from Inverness city centre, The Singleton draws visitors from all corners of Scotland and the world, particularly those exploring the North Coast 500, celebrated for its breathtaking views, scenic walks, and vibrant food and drink offerings.

Beyond its whisky-centric activities, The Singleton regularly features emerging musicians in its recurring “Singleton Sessions” and serves as a platform for diverse local businesses, ranging from street food vendors to candle makers.

Following a £185million investment from Diageo, we added our signature green touch ahead of the distillery’s opening in 2022.

The Singleton’s angular entranceway takes inspiration from the coppery whisky stills used to make their famous malts, and was finished with six black terrazzo tower planters, all filled with live blue Festuca grasses.

In the stunning bar at the heart of the distillery, we added Schefflera and olive trees, and planted grasses, ferns and thistles in a natural and organic style around the perimeter – the perfect spot to relax with a wee dram.

Speaking with The National, Leigh Aitken, brand home manager at The Singleton of Glen Ord Distillery, said: “It is our ambition to give all our guests a world-class welcome at The Singleton of Glen Ord, and this award is great recognition of the fantastic work our team have done this year.”

She added: “As an official partner to the North Coast 500 we welcome visitors from all around the world, while as one of the closest single malt distillery to Inverness, we would also love to have more people from the local area visit the distillery. We showcase the very best of Highland food and drink and it is a great option for people from the area to bring their friends and family and enjoy our award-winning hospitality.”
