Biophilic Design vs Climate Change at Roca London Gallery
Date Posted: May 22, 2024

Last week, our company Director, Adrian Byne, took part in an enlightening panel discussion titled “Biophilic Design vs Climate Change” at Roca London Gallery.

Oliver Heath skillfully chaired the panel, which included Paul de Zwart of Another Country, Vanessa Champion PhD from the Journal of Biophilic Design, and Adrian representing Benholm Group, resulting in a lively, thought-provoking session with some excellent questions from the audience.

The panel of experts explored how allowing nature to flourish in all spaces can support biodiversity, making cities more resilient to the effects of the climate crisis, whilst also more comfortable and equitable to live in.

Relfecting on the event, Adrian said: It’s amazing what ideas and insights come out of an event like this! It was great to be able to talk about how our Benholm Group planting solutions play a part in biophilic design but I also learnt so much from the other panellists as well as some great interactions with the audience.”

Biophilic Design vs Climate Change marked the beginning of a series of discussions that will take place at Roca London Gallery as part of the Bio-Spaces: Regenerative, Resilient Futures Exhibition. The next talk will take place on June 6th, this time with a focus on ‘Re-imagining Architecture: What if Nature Designed our Cities?’.

The discussion will be hosted by Oliver Heath with guest speakers from Grimshaw, Henning Larsen and biophilic design strategist Victoria Jackson of Oliver Heath Design.

Speakers will discuss how we can transform our buildings if we recalibrate our relationship with nature and will explore how our urban environments would look and feel if nature was part of the architectural design process.

Admission is free.

Doors will open at 18:30 and the talk will start around 19:00.

What is Bio-Spaces: Regenerative, Resilient Futures?

The experiential, multi-sensory exhibition is aimed at encouraging a more nature-based approach to design. We’re proud to partner the event and showcase our greenery here, highlighting the crucial role plants play in the wider framework of biophilic design.

Curated by environmentally-focused media and events platform Planted Community, in collaboration with Oliver Heath Design, Bio-Spaces plunges the visitor into the world of biophilic design, exploring biodiversity and biomimicry in design, as well as biomorphic design, bio-based materials and bioregenerative design.

The exhibition is open until 30th September, admission is free and there is no need to book.
