We’re proud to see Abertay University’s Library Renovation Project shortlisted for a Times Higher Education Award in the Outstanding Estates Team category.
Led by Threesixty Architecture in collaboration with Abertay’s estates team and project partners, the £1m renovation involved transforming the ground floor of the Bernard King Library into a dynamic, multifunctional space that now serves as the heart of campus life. What was once a traditional foyer and study area has been reimagined as a vibrant hub where students can study, socialise, and engage in events all in one flexible venue.
By opening up the library’s layout and introducing versatile furnishings, the space can seamlessly accommodate everything from quiet individual study to collaborative group work and large student events. Informal amphitheatre-style seating and designated “pop-up” zones allow for talks, workshops, and student society activities, truly making the library a communal living room for the university.
The THE Awards are the biggest celebration of UK and Irish higher education, recognising excellence across academia, professional services, leadership and management. The winners will be announced at a special black tie ceremony at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre on the evening of Thursday 13 November 2025.
