The Gyle Centre, Edinburgh – A stunning shopping centre refresh!
Benholm Group were delighted to work with Threesixty Architecture on this great project to refurbish the internal space of The Gyle Shopping Centre. The centre is located within west Edinburgh and attracts a high footfall from a combination of local residents, neighbouring office workers and shoppers travelling from further afield.
‘Enrich the interior with contemporary finishes that enhance the enduring character and reinforce The Gyle as a premium shopping destination.’
Benholm provided specialist input for the greenery required to soften up the space and bring the planting element of biophilic design into the project. Working seamlessly with the architects, main contractor Clark Contracts, and the Gyle Centre management team ensured that the project was completed on time and on budget despite a number of challenging aspects to the installation.
All the installation work was carried out at night to ensure the centre could function normally during the day and a lot of the planting was installed at high level using specialist equipment by our highly trained team.
Some interesting aspects of the project included:
- High level trailing foliage from bespoke suspended troughs creates a stunning effect in the central atrium stairwell.
- Not one, but two, huge green walls with an attractive mix of artificial foliage and preserved Nordik Moss grace the entrance atriums. The varied green foliage really sets of the retail branding for a stunning, welcoming effect.
- A number of live planters are scattered throughout the centre and are built into the seating units to provide comfortable relaxing rest areas for shoppers to enjoy as part of their inspirational retail experience.
A fantastic project and a superb final result!
