The Riccarton Inn, located in Currie, Edinburgh
The popularity of outdoor dining has been gathering steam for the last few years, with pop ups and outdoor food festivals leading the way.
On a nice dry day you’re sure to attract more diners to your restaurant with outdoor seating. This is because diners are often more comfortable eating outside, with people enjoying the view and the fun that occurs when eating outside with friends and family. Basically, when the weather is nice, you’re adding a whole other restaurant, and with that comes added revenue. And this was before we experienced Covid-19. Now outdoor space is set to play an even more important part as we emerge from lockdown.
The Riccarton Inn pub and restaurant were ahead of the curve and had already spotted the potential to increase their beer garden, looking to create a welcoming outdoor restaurant to create additional covers. We were delighted to be involved in the redesign, the existing space was shared with the car park and we knew it could be a real draw to customers. It was decided to create a designated area, making the most of the outdoor space available. From the initial design, the brief grew to add booths, then to create bespoke roofs - making them even more cosy and welcoming for customers.
Once the final design was agreed, it was exciting to head to the greenhouse and get building. It was fantastic to see the plans come together on the installation day, with lashings of greenery adding privacy and shielding for the booths. The climbing floral garlands also add a softer touch for customers to enjoy.
We love the final design, and it fulfils the brief to a tee. We hope it generates a real buzz in the area, offering a fresh new reason to enjoy the fantastic menu.
It looks great and we can't wait to see customers enjoying the booths when The Riccarton re-opens again soon. Although if you just just can't wait they are offering a takeaway service too!
