    When we started the business in 1993 we used to say we were the "family business that takes the care that makes the difference".  This is still true today except that we now have a bigger "family"!  The original family is still at the core of the management structure but we have now been joined by a number of highly trained and extremely valuable additional team players who share our passion.

    From beginnings 23 years back, where I was the guy who tended the plants and learned the hard way, I have pressed on for continuous improvement all the time.

    Planting is a visual thing, so it must look right! There is a passion inside me driving and perfecting our company.

    My pet hate? I can’t understand why people pay for planting that is below acceptable standards. Out of work, I am a fresh air kind of guy, I love the outdoors with my family.

    HR & Marketing Manager

    I helped my father start the business from scratch in 1993 and have had hands-on experience in every aspect. We wouldn’t be where we are today without our great team of people and I believe in making our company a great place to work. However, creative marketing and great design is what really gets me going!

    Someone once said “Ideas are like butterflies flying around in the air, you just have to reach out and catch one” I love brainstorming new creative ideas and solutions for our customers and I’m often told that my ideas need grounding strings! That is why I really appreciate our wonderful team who can actually turn these ideas into reality!

    Outside of work I enjoy life with my very special circle of friends. My wife and I waited 10 years for a family and then three children arrived in short succession! So, miracles do happen!

    I began my career journey by graduating in 2001 with a BA(Hons) Business & Marketing. Prior to joining Benholm in 2018, I’ve held marketing and account management positions in finance and professional services.

    I’ve also run a franchise, opened a shop and even written a book!

    I can usually be found scrolling through our social media feeds or writing blogs and I’m not afraid to take my work home. As a newbie to #plantparenthood I’m delighted my very first plant, Clarke Kent (ia) palm continues to thrive by my front door.

    Michael Byne

    Sales Manager

    I love the positive impact that plants make to any project and I enjoy interacting with Clients and Designers to create something new and stunning.

    I started working at Benholm in 2002 doing some plant maintenance and installations before moving into sales and am now fortunate enough head up a great team here at Benholm.

    I enjoy nature and the outdoors and take any opportunity to get out in the countryside with my wife and two fast growing boys.

    Having built up a passion for planting in design since I began my career journey in 2018, I support the Sales and Design team and I’m always ready to chat about the key attributes of Biophilia.

    I thrive on success and love what Zig Ziglar said – “When people say ‘Zig, motivation doesn’t last’, I say bathing doesn’t either – that’s why I recommend it daily.”

    I feed on team successes and rich tea biscuits. Away from work, I love to learn and am enjoying my further studies in Quantity Surveying and Project Management.

    It’s not unusual to see me with my hands dirty, working with our teams to bring your designs to reality. From live planting to bespoke branded floral creations, I love a challenge and won’t stop short of a quality result.

    My work doesn’t stop there – I love spending time with my wife and two boys. I grab any opportunity I can to enjoy walking the remote areas of Scotland with them, that is if I’m not busy working on a project at home or helping others!

    I worked in London for over 10 years in customer service before joining the calming environment that is Benholm in 2017. I enjoy interacting with our clients on a daily basis and as plants have minds of their own you never know what can happen!

    Having never worked with plants before I am still amazed at how creative our team can be with live/artificial plants and flowers and I am now known in my family as the plant geek!

    I have over 10 years of venue dressing and floral design expertise and discovered my passion for all things green whilst working as....a dental nurse! I downed tools, retrained at Langside in 2009 and since then I've been surrounded by beautiful blooms! I love a challenge and particularly enjoy large scale installations so I can often be found at the top of a ladder.

    I'm a country girl at heart and love being inspired by nature, especially with my son, daughter and trusty sidekick Lucy the border terrier by my side.

    Robert Byne | Benholm Group

    Finance & Accounts

    My mother’s family were farmers in East Lothian and then market gardeners in Ratho, Edinburgh. After leaving school I joined the Civil Service. After 3 years I joined a London Accountants as the pay meant I could afford to get married! After 20 years we moved to Scotland with the aim of starting a business to provide employment and security for my family and Benholm was born. We have just celebrated 26 years and all 6 of my children have worked in the business. Currently I am mainly involved in finance and contracts.

    While I learned a lot about human nature in speaking to customers in the tax office, I am now convinced that plants in that office would have helped the atmosphere!! I really have enjoyed the contact with many in helping improve the environment using plants and a variety of designs to improve the areas in which we live and work.

    I am very happy to be handing over a sound business to grow in the capable hands of my sons and staff.

    Accounts and Credit Control

    I’ve worked within Finance and Administration for 24 years. In that time enjoying positions within professional services and the whisky industry.

    I’m qualified in Administration/Information Management as well as being a BRC approved Internal Auditor. I have been the Accounts & Credit Controller at Benholm Group for 6 years now. Working with Benholm’s sales team, and customers.

    In my free time I love to travel. I also enjoy spending time with my family and friends.
