A very brief introduction...
The Benholm Group is a family-run business based in Falkirk, Central Scotland. We specialise in a wide range of plant-related servies for our many commercial customers. Mainly focusing on the Corporate Office market sector and the Hospitality market sector, we also work within various other sectors too, such as retail, education, health and the public sector.
The Benholm Group is known for it's ability to produce innovative and creative displays that enhance any space. Backed up by our high quality regular maintenance service to keep everything in peak condition.
We provide our services throughout Scotland from our head office in Falkirk with most of our customers concentrated in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen. Our nationwide service throughout the UK is managed using a unique network of like-minded independant Interior Landscapers and provides an effective solution particularly for our multi-site customers.
From James Watt’s steam engine to Alexander Graham Bell’s telephone, Scotland has a proud tradition of innovation which has changed the world. We, at the Benholm Group strive to be a modern tribute to this rich heritage.
An innovative, forward-thinking Scottish plantscaping business managed by four brothers; Adrian, Derek, Mike and Steve Byne. Our thriving second generation family business is underpinned by trust, respect and mutual values.
It's in the genes
The beginnings of our family’s innate connection with nature can be traced to our great grandfather, an industrious smallholder from Haddington who used his horticultural skills and foresight to develop an innovative and thriving market gardening operation in Ratho, Edinburgh in the late 1800’s.
Fast forward over a hundred years later to today and the business is incredibly only twenty minutes away from the original smallholding. The current organisation has grown significantly in the last twenty years, proudly employing 18 skilled staff covering hundreds of thousands of miles each year from a purpose-built HQ in Falkirk, Central Scotland.
Falkirk also happens to be a significant location for the heritage of the Benholm brand. The town is the birthplace of one of the world’s most intrepid plant hunters, George Forrest (1873–1932). His legacy, like his life story is colourful and we still use many of the plant species named after him today. His stories are legendary. Months in the wilderness, navigating sheer cliffs and makeshift bridges across deep gorges. Overcoming all sorts of perils and disasters; from near starvation, storms and earthquakes through to tropical diseases– still collecting 1200 plants completely new to science along the way.
Whilst we can’t quite boast about tales of surviving Tibetan rebellions or beating malaria, we are just as passionate about plants. The Benholm team keep alive the age-old skill of selecting the best plants, designing, creating and installing beautiful planting schemes as well as lovingly maintaining them every day.
Additionally, Falkirk is a central location providing easy access to all the main cities in Scotland. Conveniently located on the main motorway network halfway between Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Holland - The plants distribution hub for the world
We also maintain Scotland’s enduring special relationship with Holland, the plant and flower distribution hub of the world. This goes back many centuries and we continue to carefully select the very best growers, importing thousands of plants every year from all four corners of the globe.
Plants arrive at our modern, purpose-built premises with adjoining state-of-the-art, computer-controlled glasshouse. After being tended to, plants are creatively crafted and planted before being installed in offices, hotels, restaurants, showrooms, shopping centres and public buildings to be enjoyed throughout Great Britain.
Purpose-built Headquarters in Central Scotland
We are committed to embracing creativity and nature in our work and felt our offices should reflect the same ethos. Nestling in a beautiful rural location, the premises embrace local architecture and utilise a range of eco-friendly sustainable initiatives -from biomass boilers as a heating source to rain water harvesting.
The team relish receiving creative briefs. And it’s not hard to see why, when we are so fortunate to be surrounded by inspiration. Remains of the Roman-era Antonine Wall are a stone’s throw away while several world-renowned one-of-a-kind engineering masterpieces – including The Falkirk Wheel’s boat lift, and The Kelpies are on our doorstep. These towering steel mythical horse heads by Scottish sculptor, Andy Scott attract over a million tourists each year. The whole area is bursting with innovation and creativity.
Our ethos is a simple one, we very much value and respect our rich heritage as we seek to grow and innovate in the future.
Our mission statement is: “We use plants creatively to enrich people, places and spaces” and we are thankful to our customers, including some of Scotland and the UK'S biggest names, for the growing testimony to this across the UK.
